1) to have good understanding on the trends and mechanism of modern international migration;
2) to have a balanced view on the positive and negative effects of international migration on the economic development of both source countries, particularly some Asian countries such as China and India, and destination countries such as Japan and USA;
3) to master some appropriate approaches for empirical studies.

The industrial development of Taiwan - Visiting Professor : Chikashi Kishimoto

This course, "The industrial development of Taiwan", aims to enable participants
1) to have good understanding on the history and present situation of the economic & industrial development (and related social & political matters) of Taiwan;
2) to understand the development mechanism of specific Taiwanese industries (for example, the PC/IT industry, the semiconductor industry, and so on) and companies;
3) to have a broad view of Asian economic & industrial development,
4) to learn the method of the case study of specific industries/companies.

Urban Analysis - Visiting Professor : Kazuki Tamura

This course introduces basic concepts, theoretical models and empirical methods related to urban and regional analysis. It presents interdisciplinary perspective on cities and urban systems. It helps students to understand structure and dynamics of cities.
